As part of the conversion the customer wanted an awning installing to the side of the van as well as a full wiring harness.
The awning we went for is a top of the range Thule Omnistor 5200 Wind-Out awning in anthracite black. When fully extended it gives you an additional 10m2 (2.5m x 4m) of usable space for all your camping gear. Please note, additional side panels can be purchased separately if you prefer a full awning experience. The full-length awning drip rail we installed is a VW California style model which resembles the factory fitted one. The Thule range of awnings and accessories stands out due to their superior quality and design and is a go-to for many of our customers.
The harness we’ve wired in is a Pennine Leisure Supplies Converter PDU & Harness Kit with Water Probe which is ideal for van-to-camper-van conversions. The Power Distribution Unit provides 4 x 230V outputs for sockets and appliances. Through a mix of RCD, MCB and 12 separate fuse protected outputs you can enjoy your holidays with peace of mind. On the control panel you’ll find the master switch, the internal and awning light switch as well as a voltmeter and a water level indicator – everything you need at your fingertips. The finishing touch was an external hook-up point camouflaged at the rear for topping up the battery on site or at home.
This conversion has opened up a world of possibilities for our customer. Not only can they enjoy the great outdoors from the comfort of their sturdy awning, they can now also fit the van with all of their camping gear like a hob, heater, toilet, fridge and leisure battery.

Posted in: Solar Panels
This customer wanted a solar panel fitting on their trusty Burstner motorhome.
The solar panels top up the leisure battery in your vehicle which is handy when you’re out and about with no hook-up cable in sight. But there’s more to it. What you might not know is that keeping your leisure battery topped up like this will also significantly extend the battery’s life. And let’s not forget – solar power is free and environmentally firendly!
On this particular motorhome we’ve installed a Vechline 120W rigid solar panel. We’ve bonded the solar panel to the roof of the motorhome with a 3M adhesive sealant to avoid drilling into the roof which could cause leaks. We then ran the wiring into the motorhome using a watertight gland and bolted the charge controller neatly inside.
The customer was very pleased with the finished product and added functionality.
